Itinerary

Day 1 -
Arrival - Welcome -Transfer to Hotel in Negombo
On arrival welcome by a Dream World Destinations Travel representative, transfer to beach hotel in Negombo.
Negombo a beautiful sea side area on the western part of the island of Sri Lanka, just 20 minutes drive away from the Colombo - Katunayaka International airport with an amazing coast lined with palms. The natural beauty of the beach is truly breathtaking and it is a gourmet food lover’s paradise with seafood restaurants in plenty.
Negombo is home for a majority of Roman Catholics along with Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims. Negombo is also called “Little Rome” due to the highly elaborate Portuguese-era Roman Catholic churches found within the town.
Negombo is one of the best places near the airport to relax for 1- 2 days after a long haul flight, specially if you arrive early in the morning or late in the evening.

Afternoon information, briefing of the tour with a welcome cocktail. Relax by the beach.
Optional: Make a boat trip in Dutch canal, Lagoon & Sea or visit the famous local fish market.
There are no planned activities until an evening welcome meeting. Included Activities: Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting.

Day 2 -
Negombo - Anuradhapura - Enroute visit to Mihintale, the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka
After breakfast, depart for Anuradhapura.
Anuradhapura is the capital city of North Central Province.
Anuradhapura was the first capital of the island established in the 4th century BC and it is one of eight World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka. Also considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
It was the royal capital for 119 successive Singhalese Kings which lasted for about thousand five hundred years.
Many historic monuments and buildings still remain in the acres of this sacred city.

Lunch in a restaurant or you can have just a snack, if you are not so hungry.

In the afternoon a visit to Mihintale.
Mihintale is the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
Regardless of religios beliefs it is an unforgettable place to visit.
Beautiful shrines, stupas and caves, monastery ruins are visited by many locals and foreigners.
Even though white-robed pilgrims climb this temple complex through out the day we recommend a visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
The climb takes about 25 - 30 minutes. The view from the top absolutely stunning.

Day 3 -
Visit Eight sacred places in Anuradhapura
After Breakfast we will visit sites in Anuradhapura. "Eight sacred places". These eight places are comprised of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya, Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, Mirisaweti Stupa, Abhayagiri Stupa, Jetavanaramaya, and Lankaramaya.

Lunch in a Restaurant.

After lunch leave for Jaffna.

Day 4 -
Jaffna - Ultimate Jaffna city tour and boat tour to famous Nagadeepa Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya Nainativu Island
Visit the historic Nagadeepa Viharaya and Buddha Walawwa Raja Maha Viharaya by a short walk from the Nagadeepa Temple thereafter visit to the Nagapooshani Amman Kovil.

Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple situated on the Nagadeepa Island (Nainativu) about 30 KM off the coast of Jaffna Peninsula. It is one of Sri Lanka’s 16 holiest Buddhist shrines known as 'Solosmasthana'.

The history says that Lord Buddha visited Nagadeepa Temple during his second visit to Sri Lanka to mediate and settle a dispute between two Naga tribal kings, Chulodara and Mahodara over the possession of a gem-studded throne. The legends lso state that after having listened to Buddha’s Dhamma speech the two kings made peace and they offered the throne in unison to Lord Buddha, who returned it to the Naga kings.

Buddha Walawwa is located just about 500 meters away from the Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya.
According the great epic of the Indian Tamil literature of the 5th century "Manimekalai",
this place was visited by Manimekala.
This place was called as Buddha Pallanka, Buddha Thottam and Buddha Karni as well and these names could be found
even in present day deeds of land of the island.
The Temple was recently renovated and houses a historic stone sculptured Buddha statue that was recently unearthed from the premises.

Nainativu Nagapoosani Amman Temple is an ancient and historic Hindu temple located about 36 km from city of Jaffna.
It is dedicated to Parvati who is known as Nagapooshani or Bhuvaneswari and her consort, Shiva who is named here as Rakshaseshwar (Nayanair). It is believed to be the place where the silambu (anklets) of Gauri had fallen. Anklets have been given immense importance in the worship of Shakti since time and memorial. This ornament is also referred to in the famous Tamil epic Silapathikaram – where the story begins and ends with an anklet.

Day 5 -
JAFFNA – TRINCOMALEE
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Trincomalee (East Coast). In the late afternoon, do a city tour of Trincomalee.

Trincomalle is a beautiful town with one of the world's greatest natural harbors and it is a popular destination for diving. Apart from that this town is also famous for its pristine and untouched beaches among tourists and locals.
Trincomalee´s world-class deep water harbour acted as a passageway for trade during the Anuradhapuran and Polonnaruwan periods, as well as during colonial times.

Today´s tour includes a visit to Fort Fredrick; built in 1624, which is a colonial fort by the Portuguese in the Trincomalee Town.
Then will visit the famous Koneswaram Temple. The famous Koneswaram Hindu temple, dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva is located inside this fort. This temple was earlier know as temple of thousand Pillars.
Historical reports say that Portuguese had demolished the old Koneswaram temple and they build this fort with the parts of that. The remaining things were push down to the sea. According to the historical facts, this place also known as Gokanna and the Gokanna Temple also located in side this, where the current Koneswaram temple is located. The temple is built atop ‘Swamy Rock’, a rocky promontory cape overlooking Trincomalee.

Next we will pay a viait to Trincomalee War Cemetery, a peaceful and well-kept cemetery on the road between Upaveli and Nilaveli, which preserves memories of British soldiers and auxiliary staff who perished during World War II.

Day 6 -

Relax in the evening, breathing sea air while watching how the sun goes down in to the deep sea.
Optional: Trip by boat to Pigeon Island.
Pigeon Island Marine National Park situated in the Eastern Province, north of Trincomalee, one kilometer off the Nilaveli coast extends up to 471.4 hectares and possesses a 200m long and 100m wide coral reef with over 100 species of exquisite corals making. The name Pigeon Island has come after the hundreds of endemic Blue Rock Pigeons that inhabited the island.

Day 7 - 10 -
Beach relaxation continues in Trincomalee
Enjoy beauty of the scenery, sun, calm beach and the touch of the sands and swimming in the sea.

Day 11 -
Leave to Habarana, experience typical countryside and enjoy elephant safari adventure.
After breakfast leave to Habarana.
During the Habarana Village Tour you may enjoy a Bullock Cart Ride, Walk in a Chena and experience typical countryside Sri Lankan lunch at Famer’s house.
Take a real village walk through the rural community of Habarana.
You can encounter with the local villagers, farmers engaged with their agricultural daily activities
in rice fields, vegetable farming, cultivation of native yams and other crops, poultry keeping and experience their lifestyles, culture and hospitality.

In the afternoon enjoy a great Elephant Safari in Kaudulla or Minneriya National Park.

Day 12 -
Today´s highlights Sigiriya, one of the most valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka and called as the Eighth Wonder of World and explore the magnificent Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple
An early wake up time today as we head out to climb the incredible Sigiriya Rock.
After a good breakfast we will leave to Sigiriya.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress: one of the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka, which has been declared by UNESCO as the 8th Wonder of the World. Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress, once a Kingdom of great pride of magnificent hight and rich irrigitation and water architecture. Following the king’s death, Sigiriya was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. You can see the palace ruined surrounded by remaining gardens and reservoirs and Sigiriya is world famous for its 5th century pre-Christian frescoes.

Lunch in a restaurant or just take a snack and drink a fresh fruit drink if you are not so hungry.

In the late afternoon we will explore the magnificent Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Sitting on top of a 160-metre high Rock, there are five cave temples, each with different Buddha statues and interior designs.
The monastery dates back to the first century (BC) and the caves you visit today were restored and re-painted as they stand now by the Kingdom of Kandy in the 18th century.

Day 13 -
Heading towards the Hill Country to reach Sri Lanka´s second largest city, Kandy
After breakfast we leave our Hotel in Habarana and proceed towards Sri Lanka´s second largest city, Kandy. Here we traverse the hills that provide a stunning view of the beautiful Kandy Lake.
The Name Kandy comes from the words „Kanda Uda Rata“ (The country over the mountains). In Sinhala it is called "Maha Nuwara. It was once known as Senkadagala. It was the capital of the last Sinhalese Kingdom ruled by King Sri wickreama Rajasinghe (the last King of Sri Lanka).

Kandy is situated in a in a plateau surrounded by three mountain ranges, namely Udawattakale(Udawatta Mountain forest), Hantane range (Hantane Mountain) and Bahirawakanda range (Bahirawakanda Mountain) which are home to tea plantations and bio diverse rainforests.

En-route visit to a Hindu Temple (Amman Kowil-Matale) (Optional).
You can enjoy an afternoon walk around Kandy Lake, and if time permits why not do some shopping in Kandy City Center?

Visit to Kandy Viewpoint, Oak Ray Wood Carvings and Gem museum can be optionally done.

Day 14 -
Explore The Kingdom of Kandy
After an early breakfast you will start your day by visitting the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic which is called Sri Dalada Maligawa in Sinhalese language.
Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha is kept since very anciant times. During the puja times (offerings or prayers), the heavily protected shrine, housing the tooth is open to local devotees and other visitors. The Sacred Tooth is kept in the smallest of seven nested stupa shaped gold caskets and you don´t actually see the tooth.
Both Kandy and the temple (as it is in it) are now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Temple of the Tooth Relic consists of three main buildings. They are the Vedahiti Maligaya, Pattirippuwa and Aluth Maligawa. The ancient sculpture inside the temple, the beautiful architecture and the wooden structural constructions where the inner chamber is placed are some of the attractions to any visitor.
The latest institution added to the Dalada Shrine the “Sri Dalada Museum”, displays various historical records, photography from the time when the Tooth Relic was brought to Sri Lanka and lists of the Chief Prelates of the two monastic establishments of Malwatte and Asgiriya to the time of the British rule.

Next we will visit The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, which was once reserved only for Kandyan royal familie. Today everyone can enjoy the most impressive and largest botanic gardens in Sri Lanka. 60 hectares

In the evening you can enjoy a Cultural Dance Show, a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show, which is performced by The Kandy Lake Club established in 1982. Their intention was bringing together all Sri Lankan dance types to one platform. It is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka. Their performances mostly end with a „fire walking“ (stepping on burning coals), which is done with the everlasting faith towards the God.
Kandy Cultural Dance Show has become a tourist attraction for many people visiting the country who are keen to have a look at its rich cultural heritage.

Day 15 -
Enjoy the world`s most beautiful and scenic train ride and reach "Little England"
After breakfast in your Kandy Hotel, in the hill country of Sri Lanka you will find one of the world`s most beautiful and scenic train trip is Kandy to Nanuoya (Nuwara Eliya), the most famous stretch of train travel in Sri Lanka.
The scenery is fantastic through out this journey and this is the most exciting part of today´s programme.
You will pass beautiful green hills, lush tea plantations, endless mountains, old bridges, waterfalls, rice fields and
small villages.
Nuwara Eliya is called “Little England” because many of the buildings in this city keep hold of the British colonial period, some of them are Queen's Cottage (also known as the President's House or The Lodge) which is a country house, the General's House (another country house), the Grand Hotel, the Hill Club and Nuwara Eliya Post Office. Nuwara Eliya is characterised by a cool climate all year long, average temperature can range from 15 °C to 17 °C.
Lunch on the way or in Nuwara Eliya.
In the afternoon we will enjoy a walk around the Gregory lake. If you like to, you can take take a 20-minute speedboat ride on the lake. (Optional)
You can enjoy a walk through The Bale Bazaar in Nuwara Eliya: It is nicknamed the Winter Market because they sell winter clothes for the cold Nuwara Eliya weather.

Day 16 -
Experiance The famous End of the World and a beginning of a magnificent sight...
With breakfast package in hand we will leave our hotel very early in the morning (around 5 a.m.) to reach Horton Plains National Park, situated at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level before the clouds roll in. This way we can start the trekking around o’clock in the morning and arrive at the „World’s End“ before 10 o’clock. This way we will be able to see the toy-town tea-plantation village in the valley below, and an unencumbered view south towards the coast.
Since 1988 the forest reserve has been declared it a National Park and since 2010 has been announced as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
